Having an iOS device can be both a blessing and a curse. The abilities of an iOS device are almost countless, and the fact that you can back up everything on your computer makes using these devices even more attractive. But, sometimes these backups can take up a huge amount of space, especially if you are using multiple devices. Many users do not pay attention to their iTunes preferences to keep an eye on their backups. You still may have saved backups from a device you do not possess, or you may have backups that are not useful anymore.

Deleting unnecessary iTunes backups can save you a lot of space and simplify your backups. Deleting backups from iTunes is not like deleting a file on your computer. The backup won’t be placed in Trash/Recycle Bin and it won’t be easily recovered once removed. Therefore, make sure to carefully remove your data, to avoid losing the only copy of your iOS. To do so, make sure to follow our instructions on deleting iTunes backup.

Part 1.How to Delete iTunes Backup on Windows

Deleting iTunes Backup is a bit simpler on Mac than on Windows. When deleting iTunes backup from Windows you need to locate the file manually.

First, you need to locate your Application Data folder. On Windows XP you can find the folder under Find a list of your iTunes backups under: C:Documents and Settings(username)Application DataApple ComputerMobileSyncBackup. On Windows Vista and higher the folder is located under the following: Find device backups in Users(username)AppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackup. To find your folder like this, you’ll need to have enabled the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option in Windows Explorer.

The other way for finding the mentioned folder would be by clicking Start, typing %appdata% and pressing enter.

Once deleting the backup manually, do not forget to empty your Recycle Bin.

There is one more way to delete your iTunes backups. What you need to do this time is to turn on your menus in iTunes. To do so, press Alt once you enter iTunes. This will turn on the menus temporarily, meaning when you exit, they won’t be there.
